Last January 15, 2017 was the feast of our beloved Snr. Sto. Niño (Child Jesus) where we celebrate the Sinulog Festival 2017. It started with a solemn procession called walk with Jesus and an opening novena mass. The Novena mass lasted for 9 days and I successfully completed it. There was a superstitious belief that if ever you completed the 9 days novena mass, your petitions and prayers will be granted (I hope so).

The weather during the Sinulog week was not favorable. There was a tropical storm and a low pressure warning that troubled the skies of Cebu. It rained a lot but the devotion of the devotees was not shattered. Still thousands of people attended the novena mass with their umbrella and raincoats to cover them, that's how strong our beliefs and faith.

During the last procession on the eve of the feast, thousands of people joined the procession which is a total sacrificial because of the threat of terrorism and also it rained on that day. There was no network connection on that day. We are back to the old days. The people are full packed inside the Basilica del Santo Niño most of the people were struggling to get inside the church but we manage to get in because of our photographer's pass.

Millennials were partying all night during the eve of the festival but they were stopped by the police because it's too much. They were drunk and some of them maybe taking drugs and their actions were already not appropriate. Sinulog Festival means to be Sacred and Holy but to the new generations, Sinulog is all about party and being drunk it was somewhat like a Sin Feast Day.

On the day of the Festival was when the Grand Parade happened. Contingents all over the Philippines joined the Sinulog 2017 Grand Parade. The weather was very supportive on that day, the sun is up and shinning. Colorful costumes and active dancers are on the streets entertaining the people that wanted to watch them perform. Spectators are ready to take their selfies with the contingents and enjoying every bit of it. Laughing, shouting and screaming were all you can hear during this festival.
Overall Sinulog is a blast not only for us Filipino particularly Cebuano's but also for foreigners who wanted to experience the Sinulog Festival.

Tips for Sinulog Festival.

- If you are not from Cebu and doesn't have any relatives here in Cebu, better booked your reservation for a hotel or a pension house earlier in November, hotels can be fully booked later than that.

- Picked a hotel that is near to the Grand parade route or to the party places.

- If you want all access on the parade route? Join the photo contest.

- Don't bring large amount of money with you during Sinulog, pickpockets are everywhere.

- Carry a small sling bag for your phones and wallet.

- No network signals during Sinulog. So better set a time and place where all your friends should meet.

- Full charge your phone and cameras better to have spare battery and memory cards.

- Sinulog is kinda crowded and sweaty, so please apply deodorant. You will smell stinky all day if you don't put something.

- Going home is hard. Some of the streets are still closed and the traffic is really bad. One solution is to ride a habal-habal. It is a single motorcycle that will send you home but for a price.

- It is not hard to choose where to eat on that day because food booth and stands are everywhere but expect that they are full of people too. I packed my own lunch because I don't want to wait in line to buy food, if you can then packed your own lunch.

- Enjoy the Sinulog Festival.
